Confirmations
Notes for Parents Meeting on 31st January 2012

Explanation what your child in Yrs 4, 5 and 6 will learn at the Confirmation Preparation Classes.

The classes for the three year groups will commence on Monday 20th February 2012, in school, at 2.15 - 3.15.

The Confirmation learning itinerary has been prepared by Fr Marsden, Mr Smyth, Mr Hodge, Mrs Walsh. Mrs Carter and Mrs Grzeczynska. We will be the Catechists for your children in their Confirmation preparation.

The preparation classes will all take place always on a Monday, within the school and will last 6 weeks. There will be a further session after the Easter break and a final practise, which will take place after Mass in church.

The dates are as follows and are available in written form and on the school website.

Lesson 1 20th February
We will look at the Sacrament of Confirmation. What is it and why do we have it?

Lesson 2   27th  February
We will look at the Sacrament of Penance with special emphasis on The Holy Spirit and why it is important that we should understand ourselves. Also we will discuss why Reconciliation with God helps us to become better people. We will think about why we should be in a state of Grace when receiving Holy Communion.

Lesson 3  5th March
We will look at The Holy Eucharist and how The Holy Spirit changes the bread and wine to become The Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. We will remind ourselves of The Feast of The Passover.
We will also look how the Holy Spirit helps us to understand Scripture and most weeks we will think about sections of Scripture and their meanings.
We will also look at the story of Blessed Roger Wrenno - our Beatified weaver from Chorley.

Lesson 4 12th March
We will look why we are Baptised into the Church and the link between Baptism and Confirmation.
We will also look at Saint's names and how and why we choose our Confirmation name.

Lesson 5  19th March
We will discuss the gifts of The Holy Spirit and The Fruits of The Holy Spirit.

Lesson 6  26th March
We will discuss the Confirmation Liturgy and the role of our Bishop - it will be Bishop Vincent Malone who will preside on Tuesday 24th April 2012 at 7pm in our Church.

Lesson 7 will take place on 16th April and will be a revision class.

On the 18th April Years 4, 5 and 6 will attend 09.00 Mass in Church and after Mass there will be a logistical practise.

Sacrament of Reconciliation will take place in school on:

6th March  Yr4
21st March yrs 5 and 6

Sponsors for your child

Each child will require a Sponsor, who will put forward the child as a Confirmation candidate to the Bishop.
The Sponsor can be male or female but must be over 16 years of age and having received the Sacrament of Confirmation as a  Roman Catholic and who attends weekly Mass.

Confirmation Names

Your child will be asked to choose a Catholic Saint's name for Confirmation. The name can either be male or female.
We suggest that you discuss the choice of the name with your child and focus on perhaps a Patron Saint of a particular vocation or a Saint which has a special meaning for your child.
All names must be chosen by 16th April 2012.

Dress Code for the Confirmation Liturgy

We would please ask parents and guardians to dress their children with the respect  and understanding that we are in God's Holy House.
Thank you.

Special request to parents/guardians

Each week, your child will come home with a RE booklet. We would like to ask parents/guardians to help in the weekly homework and preparation for the following week preparation class.
The questions will not be difficult and it is a very good opportunity to learn and refresh your knowledge about the Sacrament of Confirmation.
