ST MARY'S PARISHIONERS AT WORK

SCRIPTURE REFLECTION GROUP
The Apostles, after spending the day listening to Jesus, probably gathered in the evening to discuss and try to understand what Jesus had been saying.
Jesus's teaching has come down to us through the Bible. Each Sunday when parts of the Bible are read out to the congrregation, both from the Old and New Testaments, it is difficult to grasp the full depth of the readings just by listening to them.
In order to develop the understanding and appreciate the significance of these readings a group of parishioners gather at the presbytery to discuss them. Fr Marsden joins the group when he is available.
The group use information from secondary sources and put forward their own ideas. By this exercise they hope to strengthen their faith and deepen their understanding of it.
The meetings are on Mondays at 7.30 pm except for the first Monday of each month.

The Secular Franciscan Order (SFO)
When St Francis of Assisi founded our Order it was called at first the ORDER OF
PENANCE. Later it became known as the THIRD ORDER OF ST. FRANCIS and its members were known as TERIARIES. This orer is a true order of the Church.
Our founder, St Francis, completely turned his life around; his conversion came about when he embraced a leper. Up until this time he had fund lepers abhorrent. His life became truly holy, conforming almost entirely to the life of Our Lord Jesus - more fully than any saint ever known.
Among the body of over 430,000 professed SFO's world wide, are ordinary men and women, married and unmarried and secular diocesan priests, Together with over 150,000 male and female religious Franciscans, we are commissioned to accomplish the task set by Our Lord, who spoke to Francis from the cross in the churh of San Damiano,
to "Go repair my Church, which you see is falling to ruins."
We in the SFO are professed to live the gospel life in the manner of St. Francia, going from "gospel to life and life to gospel." We do this by following our Rule, drawn up by Francis himself and adapted more recently to life in modern times, by living simply, chastely and in humility. This way of life follows Francis in the footsteps of Jesus and his holy mother Mary.
If you would like to learn more-come and see us, we meet in the Parish Centre the 1st Sunday of the month at 2.15 pm.
