St. Vincent de Paul Society (S.V.P.)

The St Vincent de Paul Society is an international Christian organization.
It is dedicated to tackling poverty and disadvantage by propagating direct practical assistance to anyone in need. The S.V.P. has been active in England and Wales since 1844, and it still, today continues to address social and material need in all its many forms.
The S.V.P. conference at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Chorley ,was aggregated on 29th March 1939, and at the first meeting, also dated 29th March 1939, the following full members were present:-
Fr Kelly, Chaplain, W.E. Twist, President, E/W. Gabbott, Vice President, J. Green, Vice President, R. Catterall, Secretary, J. Waring, Treasurer, I. Fairclough, H. Greaves, J. W. Pilkington, T. Crook, W. Ormerod, B. Prescott,T. Hodson, E. Sallon S. Lamb,
It has continued to date, and it is a healthy working conference holding to the original dedication of helping all, quietly and confidentially.
The S.V.P.work - visiting the housebound and elderly, helping those in need in
a practical way.
Meetings 2nd Thursday in the month at the Parish Centre at 8 pm.
